In order to e-preserve Tamil Heritage materials in England, Tamil Heritage Foundation, London, has photocopied several Tamil books from "India Office" -British Library, and digitized them for public display. This is part of our effort to make the local Tamil community aware of their history as recorded by their colonial masters. Several hundred Tamil books were collected by British colonial authority and preserved in the British Library.
For the first time those books are available online for public display. This is a pilot project with a limited collection of books. The books are ancient (more than a century old) and printed all over the then Tamil speaking world of British Raj. Awards for all, Lottery grants scheme aimed at local communities in London has provided the necessary fund for this pilot project. Tamil Heritage Foundation, London has plans to enlarge this scheme for a wider collection of books from British Library. The authority of British Library was very helpful in our community activity. We are very thankful to Awards for all grant and British Library.
The digital version of our collection is on public display and fully downloadable as PDF files at this site. The available titles are given on the right side of this column.
Tamil Heritage Foundation is an international initiative for digital preservation of Tamil manuscripts in print and other forms. Please visit our homepage for details of our activity.
